Cataracts are the leading cause of poor vision in adults. However the development of cataracts does not have to mean a loss of sight. Treatment for cataracts is over 95 percent successful in restoring good vision.

A cataract is the clouding of the lens of the eye. It causes vision to be distorted and blurred.

A cataract is a natural aging process. As we mature, the normal material of the lens becomes hard and cloudy. Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent the development of cataracts. Everyone who lives long enough will eventually develop them.

The symptoms of cataracts include blurring of vision, halos or glare around lights, difficulty with night driving, a feeling of “film” over eyes, difficulty with reading or driving and double vision.

Cataracts cannot be cleared by medication or eye drops. However, vision can be restored by having the cataract removed.

Your eye doctor can evaluate and diagnosis cataracts.
